Research Department

The research department studies microelectronic technologies and the setting-up of technological processes, it guarantees the necessary scientific support for the industrial department.
The department has acquired from Perugia’s University, for technologies transfer, some important technologies. Those technologies, integrated with the company know-how, had allowed starting up of advanced research planned in a research project approved by MIUR.

In the space sector are successfully been developed the following main activities:
- Design method, construction technologies and   industrial and process techniques to qualify   for
space application rigid and flexible industrial   base substrates.
- Etching technologies and microelectronic   substrate surface treating, particularly referred to   bonding technologies.

- Substrate thermo mechanical behavior.
- Galvanic connections behavior in the termination   zone (dissimilar metals).

- Corrosion reduction due to galvanic coupling.

  Gold and silver wire bonding process connection.
- Destructive and non destructive test for process   qualification in microelectronic assembly   fabrication.
- Design and process for die devices use.
- Electric and thermal glues for die attach.
- Thermal, electrical and mechanical behaviours on   die-substrate junction.
- Gluing process qualify through thermal cycle   exposition with non destructive and dimensional   tests.
- Assembly and interconnection process qualify   through thermo vacuum cycle exposition.

- Assembly and interconnection process qualify   through vibration cycle exposition.
- Mechanical precision measurements in complex   microelectronic assemblies.
- Design technologies and fabrication methodology   for microelectronic tools.

Other research projects are now in progress; one of this is an important innovative project, financed by Italian Space Agency (ASI); this concern a solid state satellite micro motor development, to be used on next generation satellites.
Are else under studies for:
- Development of power subsystem for small   satellites using photovoltaic devices with high   efficiency and the implementation of special   algorithms to maximise the power efficiency;
- The development of high capacitance batteries   array, with low weight for space employment;
- The spacialization of OBDH subsystems COTS   type also for payload application.
